KUALA LUMPUR: The Social Security Organization (Socso) has received almost 400 complaints about the Wage Subsidy Program (WSP), Dewan Rakyat was told yesterday.

Minister of Human Resources Datuk Seri M. Saravanan (pix) said Sosco had received 388 complaints against employers since the WSP was implemented in June.

It said 156 cases involved false claims and misuse of WSP funds, while 232 cases are currently under investigation.

“Socso will suspend payments to employers suspected of making false claims until all investigations into the complaints are completed.

“As of November 11, Socso has received 388 complaints against employers who misused the WSP for almost 20 million ringgit,” he said in response to a question from Charles Santiago (PH-Klang).

Santiago had asked the minister to indicate the number of companies that are receiving the WSP and those that have declared bankruptcy.

Saravanan said Socso had taken action against employers who failed to meet the stipulated conditions.

He added that as of October 2, a total of 713 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have closed their businesses.

It said 5,537 employers have been blacklisted for violating terms and conditions, such as laying off employees and failing to pay contributions to Socso.

Saravanan said an arrest was made in Kedah last month for the misuse of WSP funds with the help of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), while five more cases are under investigation.

He said that Sosco will display the list of employers that have received WSP assistance on its Prihatin website https://prihatin.perkeso.gov.my for their employee information.
