KOTA KINABALU: The State Government has decided to allow all activities related to the economic, industrial and business sectors to operate during the period of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

However, the state government’s official Covid-19 spokesperson, Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, said that entertainment centers, entertainment clubs, nightclubs, pubs, cinemas and gaming activities are not allowed to operate.

He said that all standard operating procedures (SOPs) established by the National Security Council (MKN) must be met on October 14.

In a statement issued yesterday, Masidi said that all entrepreneurs and companies can only operate from 6 am to 6 pm.

“The number of employees should be reduced to 50 percent,” he added.

The other SOPs include a one meter social distancing, a reasonable number of customers allowed in a venue at a time, designated entry and exit points, a 30-minute entry limit for customers, temperature control, and the use of sanitizers. of hands.

Masidi said that those with temperatures above 37.5 degrees Celsius or with symptoms should be referred to the State Department of Health immediately.

On the other hand, he said that the State Government has distributed a total of 19,587 food baskets so far.

“The distribution of food baskets will be monitored by the Ministry of Community Development and Popular Welfare,” Masidi said.

He also said that all the costs of public services in the 16 buildings used as additional hospital rooms will be borne by the State Government.

Meanwhile, the president of the Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCCI), Datuk Michael Lui, asked Masidi yesterday to clarify the difference in the standard operating procedures (SOP) for the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO). ) imposed in Sabah compared to those in Selangor. Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

Lui noted that the National Security Council (NSC) has decided to allow activities in the economic, industrial and business sectors, including fishing, plantations and agriculture, to operate during the CMCO period.

He said that the CMCO SOPs announced by Defense Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob for Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya were a big difference compared to the strict restrictions imposed in Sabah.
“This has caused a lot of confusion among the people of Sabah,” Lui said.

He said that Sabah along with Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya were all Covid-19 hot spots, but different SOPs were applied in terms of the sectors they were authorized to operate and their hours of operation.

“Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya are areas with the highest population density in Malaysia, which means that the risk of transmission of Covid-19 will be no less than Sabah,” he said.

Lui reiterated that KKCCCI’s position was that the fight against Covid-19 and the reactivation of the economy should receive the same emphasis amid the pandemic.

He said that the companies have strictly adhered to the guidelines and standard operating procedures of the Ministry of Health.

“However, we do not agree with CMCO’s double standards within the same country.

“We are fine with implementing stricter standard operating procedures, but not with double standards,” he said.

Lui said that the third wave of infections has had a great impact on Sabah’s population and economy. Since the CMCO’s implementation, companies have stopped and more have lost their jobs, he said.

“The sluggish economy has seriously affected people’s livelihoods, especially street vendors and small business owners.”

Therefore, he hoped that the Federal Government would allocate more resources and assistance to the businesses and people of Sabah to demonstrate its commitment to ease their burden.

Lui said that Covid-19 has completely changed our lives.
“Some have contracted Covid-19; some have sadly succumbed to the virus; while others have lost friends and family.

“However, we must persevere and work together to conquer Covid-19,” he said.
