PETALING JAYA: All schools in the Petaling district will be closed from today, says the Ministry of Education.

The ministry said that a total of 298 schools, located in the red zone areas, would remain closed for two weeks until October 25.

He said the move was due to an increase in Covid-19 cases and that health authorities have declared the district a red zone.

“These are primary, secondary and private schools registered under the ministry, as well as schools with hostels and professional colleges.

“Students have to wait for their parents to pick them up from the shelters to go home.

“Those who wish to stay in the school hostels and professional colleges during this period will be placed under the care of the hostel guardians,” he said.

The ministry added that schools that were conducting PMS mock exams could reschedule the exams for a later date.

“Principals and principals must ensure that teaching and learning takes place in the home according to the suitability of the teachers and students.

“The ministry will continue to monitor the situation throughout the country and is working closely with the National Security Council and the Ministry of Health.

“From time to time there will be an announcement about school closings for other districts,” he said.

Previously, the ministry had also ordered the closure of schools in Klang and Sabah.

A total of 142 schools in Klang were closed from October 8 to October 23, while all schools in Sabah were ordered to close for two weeks from October 10.
