KUCHING: The state government will ensure that all Sarawakians have access to Covid-19 vaccines once they are available, said Senior Deputy Minister Douglas Uggah Embas.

He said the state government supported Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s call during the 23rd ASEAN-China Summit yesterday to make the availability of such vaccines in Malaysia a top priority.

“The chief minister, Abang Johari Openg, has also pledged to allocate funds for the purpose (to make vaccines available),” he said during his closing speech at today’s state assembly.

Uggah, who is also the chair of the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee, said that the state government had spent RM96 million from March to October to curb the spread of Covid-19.

In handling Covid-19, he said, the committee had adopted the full containment policy to “trace, test, quarantine and isolate” when there was a positive case.

To ensure the success of the policy, it had implemented several strategies funded by the state government, such as free quarantine and smear tests for returning Sarawakians, providing adequate quarantine centers, medical equipment and food supplies, as well as logistical support. for the front line.

“We distribute food aid to those in need, especially during periods of EMCO and TEMCO (Enhanced Directed and Enhanced Motion Control Order), we support returning Sarawak teachers and students, and we ensure that the 12 divisional disaster committees have sufficient operating funds.

“We have also established and enforced the use of EnterSarawak and the eHealth declaration form to track and regulate the movements of people entering and leaving the state,” he said.
