PETALING JAYA: All major exams in the country will be postponed until next year, following the third wave of Covid-19 infections and lockdown restrictions in nearly every state, the Education Ministry said.

Education Minister Radzi Jidin said this involved Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM), Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) and Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM).

He said that the SPM, SVM and STAM exams will begin on February 22, 2021. The STPM exam will be postponed until March 8, 2021.

The ministry’s decision will affect 400,445 SPM candidates, 23,313 SVM candidates, 92,964 STPM candidates, and 7,996 STAM candidates.

Radzi said that all students who sit for these important exams will be able to return to their respective schools and resume face-to-face learning on January 20 of next year.

“Details on these public examinations will be announced in the near future,” he told a news conference today.

More information about SPM practice tests, courses and assessments will also be posted soon.

Radzi also said that rescheduling public exams would not affect the enrollment of students in public institutions of higher education and tertiary level.

He added that the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for matriculation students, which was scheduled for December 8-19, 2020, will also be postponed to next year.

“To meet current challenges, we request the cooperation of all parties to jointly support the efforts made by the ministry.

“Rest assured that every step announced by the ministry is to ensure that the future generation of the country can get the best education, even in difficult situations.”
