KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 9): AirAsia Digital President Aireen Omar is among four new appointments to the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) board of directors as part of efforts to reinvent the country’s digital economy.
In a statement today, MDEC said that in addition to Aireen, the others were Dr. Dhesi Baha, Farouk Peter Lee and Jaleeludeen Abu Baker.
Aireen is currently President of AirAsia Digital, AirAsia Group Bhd’s digital business division, where she is responsible for its digital strategy, promoting innovation across the group and fostering collaboration across AirAsia’s businesses and markets.
She oversees large strategic digital initiatives across the group to help transform AirAsia Group into a cloud-based and platform-based business.
Dr. Dhesi Baha has a Master of Public Health and a DrPH (Doctor of Public Health).
One of his key contributions to Malaysia was i-Kelahiran, a software that organizes birth data, vaccination coverage, and tracks high-risk pregnancies in real time.
The technology was then rolled out to government hospitals and clinics in Malaysia.
Lee is currently the Asian market general manager for AXA Group Operations, responsible for managing the delivery of shared IT services (infrastructure and applications) for AXA companies in Asia.
He is also President of AXA Group Operations Hong Kong and a member of the Executive Board of AXA Group Operations Malaysia and AXA Group Operations Philippines.
He has over 25 years of experience leading and driving operational and IT-enabled change in the insurance and banking industry in Asia, specifically in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea and China (including Hong Kong).
He holds a BA (Honors) in Electrical Engineering from Brown University, USA.
Meanwhile, Jaleeludeen is currently the Chief Legal and Administrative Officer of AHB International Berhad and was a former CEO of Antah Holdings Bhd.
He was part of the team charged with carrying out the change of course and corporate restructuring of Antah Group.
The task also involved addressing and rectifying the various corporate governance problems faced. He also conducted a comprehensive corporate and legal review of their investment portfolios and led the resolution of disputes.
Commenting on the appointments, MDEC President Datuk Wira, Dr. Rais Hussin Mohamed Ariff, said that bringing the team together to serve on its board will strengthen the depth and breadth of the experience to benefit rural and urban needs, while simultaneously which accelerates its positioning as the ‘Heart of Digital Asean’.
“The globally recognized track record of these accomplished leaders provides MDEC and all of our stakeholders with deep industry experience, high-performing leadership, and effective governance.
“The new board members will also strengthen our efforts to seize opportunities in the next normal stage, which will benefit MSMEs, concert workers, multinationals and the public sector alike,” he said.
He said the four new members will complement the seven current board members, working alongside MDEC CEO Surina Shukri and the experienced management team to spearhead the agency’s goal of reinventing its approach to growing Malaysians. with digital skills, business with digital technology and digital investments. to achieve the 2030 Shared Prosperity agenda.
