You may have missed Tony Fernandez when he took on the task of delivering food to hungry customers that they used to order via the Airasia app (iOS, Android). Still, Airasia Food offers attractive rates such as no hidden fees and a 10% commission model to encourage merchants to join the platform.
“What we really want to do with Airasia Food is democratize the food delivery business, especially for merchants, as the other players are charging an arm and a leg with high commissions,” said Fernandez.
Airasia Food was launched during the Motion Control Order (MCO) in May 2020. You can access the feature by downloading the Airasia app, then selecting “Food” and selecting your order after confirming your location, just like Foodpanda or Grabfood works .
Airasia Food’s flat rates equate to a 10% commission fee, much lower than Grab and Foodpanda’s 30% service fee. Fernández said this will allow merchants “to earn more while having full control of their menu, prices, and also easy access to data by being able to communicate directly with customers.”
“Our flat rates are by far the cheapest in the food delivery industry and we hope it will be something of a ‘Merdeka’ for all restaurants,” continues Fernández.
In addition to the lower commission rates, users can earn and pay with their BIG Points. Merchants can also register immediately online without the need for contracts or forms, and reach more customers with delivery coverage of up to 60 km.
Malaysians can already use the delivery function, and Airasia Food plans to expand to Singapore by the end of January 2021. They will expand to other Asean cities next year. If you are a merchant interested in adding Airasia Food to your delivery options, you can email them here.
