AirAsia and AAX rise after management said in talks with Tata about the Indian joint venture

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 11): Shares of AirAsia X Bhd (AAX) and AirAsia Group Bhd rose this morning after the group said it was in talks with India-based conglomerate Tata Group about the future of their joint venture. (JV), AirAsia (India) Ltd.

AAX, one of the most traded stocks this morning, was up 1 sen or 11.11% at 10 sen. 42.59 million shares were traded at the counter.

Meanwhile, AirAsia rose as much as 3.5 sen or 4% at 91 sen. At 9.41am, the counter had cut some gains to 90 sen, still up 2.5 sen or 2.86%.

Yesterday, AirAsia Group Bhd Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tan Sri Tony Fernandes was quoted by CNBC TV18 as saying that the group was in a discussion with Tata.

“Whether we should invest money to continue in India or expand into Asean, that’s a discussion that I’m having with my partners in India, and there will be some announcements one way or another,” Fernandes said.

Meanwhile, he was also quoted as saying that he anticipated air travel would return in force, expecting international routes to open in the next six months.
