KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has allowed certain activities in the agricultural and plantation sector to resume full operations as of tomorrow.
The state’s housing and local government minister, Masidi Manjun, said that to smooth operations in these sectors, rubber, cocoa and palm oil plantations can now operate in full force and all workers return to service.
He added that the livestock, agriculture and fishing industries will also be allowed to operate at full capacity.
However, he noted that all workers must comply with Covid-19 SOPs, such as health exams, recording body temperature and use of masks, among others.
“Employers should prepare workplace protocols to help stop the spread of Covid-19 in accordance with standards set by the Ministry of Health,” he said in a statement here today.
Masidi, who is Sabah’s official spokesperson on Covid-19, said that any worker showing symptoms of the virus should immediately seek treatment and be quarantined.
“Therefore, plantation owners or smallholders should prepare a suitable quarantine center in such an event,” he said.
He also reminded employers to notify the health department immediately if more than 5% of their workforce is absent from work due to fever or other symptoms of the virus.
Meanwhile, Masidi said that agricultural factories, as well as stores that sell agricultural staples, such as machines, fertilizers and herbicides, and hardware stores that sell heavy agricultural machinery, will only be able to operate with up to 50% of the staff who show up to to work. .
Other stores or agricultural establishments that can operate at 50% of their capacity are machine repair shops and electrical workshops that sell cold storage equipment, among others.
Other areas within the agricultural industry that are allowed to operate under the same capacity are transportation, marketing, import and export.
Meanwhile, the health department has added a total of 662 beds in various quarantine and treatment centers, bringing the total number of beds in Sabah now to 7,859.
The state government has also distributed 102,730 food baskets to affected residents, he added.
