PETALING JAYA: The Attorney General (AG) has praised his staff for their expertise, commitment and dedication, days after a book by former AG Tommy Thomas painted a poor picture of members of the country’s legal administration.

Idrus Harun, in a letter to his staff at the Attorney General’s Office (AGC), said they have been able to overcome challenges in addressing critical issues and further asked his staff to maintain their “stellar work ethic” and to move the cameras forward defending Justice.

In a letter seen by FMT, Idrus further referred to the book written by Thomas titled ‘My Story: Justice in the Wilderness’, stating that the book, which questioned the ability and competence of AGC staff, has received mixed reactions from various sectors. .

“The content of the book has created a negative view, especially among the public, affecting the morale and confidence of prosecutors.

“In my opinion, this (book) is an insult to our legal institution that I respect and admire,” Idrus said in his two-page letter.

He also referred to his service and said he had 35 years of experience in the judiciary and as a judge of the Court of Appeals.

“Therefore, I have no doubt about the ability, experience, commitment and dedication of law enforcement officers in the performance of their duties without fear or favor,” added Idrus.

In fact, Idrus said, he was glad that since the book was published, officials have received decisions favoring the government in high-profile cases.

“This clearly shows that law enforcement officials are on par with or even better than those in the private sector.”

He further said officers are constantly working under pressure and beyond duty, and “their sacrifices cannot be measured.”

Idrus criticized the book as “superficial” and written by a person with limited experience in the civil service, especially in the AGC and as an AG.
