Najib Razak is disappointed by the record spike in Covid-19 cases today, says he wants a 2-week lockdown to be imposed to stop the spread.

PETALING JAYA: The time has come for the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government to admit that it has failed to manage the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, following the record spike of new cases today.

Former Prime Minister Najib Razak made this call today and also urged the government to reinstate interstate travel restrictions and the conditional movement control order (CMCO) for at least another two weeks to curb the spread of Covid-19.

His comments follow the announcement by the Ministry of Health that a new daily record of 2,593 new cases had been recorded in the 24 hours that ended at noon today.

“It is disappointing that daily Covid-19 cases hit a new record today.

“We have also overtaken Honduras, Nigeria, Bahrain, Kenya, Algeria, Libya, Paraquay, Ireland, Bosnia and Venezuela, after passing through China just three weeks ago,” he said in a Facebook post tonight.

Najib added that the number of domestic cases is expected to exceed Myanmar’s in a matter of two days.

Today’s daily cases brought the total number of cases to 125,438. There are 24,347 active cases with 141 patients in intensive care, of which 67 require ventilation.
