Robert Pattinson tested positive for coronavirus, prompting The batman suspend filming in Britain days after it reoccurred, according to a source familiar with the situation.

Warner Bros confirmed on Thursday (August 3) that production was halted after a team member tested positive, but did not confirm the identity of the person. Vanity Fair first reported that Pattinson was the one who had coronavirus.

“A member of the ‘The Batman’ production tested positive for Covid-19 and is isolating himself in accordance with established protocols,” a Warner Bros. spokesperson said in a statement. “Filming is temporarily on hold.”

The study declined to comment on whether Pattinson had contracted the virus or not; A representative for the actor did not immediately respond to request for comment.

Depending on the amount of time Pattinson has to self-isolate and recover, discontinuing production could be an expensive proposition. The batman, starring Pattinson as The Caped Crusader, had been shooting for about seven weeks when the cameras had to be turned off in March due to the pandemic. The stark comic book adventure has roughly three months of footage to shoot and expects to finish filming by the end of the year.

Numerous productions were halted as the virus began to escalate last spring, and very few blockbusters have resumed filming amid the global health crisis. Jurassic World: Dominion it was the first major film to be rebooted and has been back to work at Pinewood Studios in Britain since July.

Universal Pictures, the studio that releases the latest Jurassic Aftermath, it has taken costly and extensive measures to ensure the set remains coronavirus-free. Those security procedures involve everything from routine temperature checks to renting a hotel for the cast and crew for 20 weeks.

Since the production of The batman was suspended, Warner Bros. delayed its theatrical release and now plans to present the film on the big screen on October 1, 2021.

Matt Reeves directed The batman, which also stars Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as Riddler, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon. John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Jayme Lawson, Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell complete the cast.

Reeves, in a recent panel during DC FanDome, revealed that The batman takes place during “Year Two” of the appearance of the Dark Knight, before his enemies turn into full-blown supervillains. – Reuters
