PETALING JAYA: Actor Mustaqim Bahadon (pictured) received a compound of RM1,000 for removing his mask in a public space.
According to Mustaqim, 35, he was alone in the motorcycle parking area in front of a hair salon he owned in Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur, on Sunday.
“In the afternoon, I asked a worker to cut my hair. While I was waiting for the worker to prepare his equipment, I went out for a while to smoke an electronic cigarette in the motorcycle parking lot, which was right in front of the premises.
“Not even a minute later, the authorities came and said that he had violated standard operating procedure (SOP) because he was not wearing a mask. They gave me a compound for 1,000 RM.
“At the time I was alone, there was no one with me. I thought I could take off the mask for a while, but apparently that was an offense, “he told mStar, the Malay news portal of The Star.
Even though he was fined, Mustaqim said he accepted it.
“I apologize and I must admit that I did remove my mask, although it was for a while.
“I took it easy because I thought I was complying with the SOP and not bothering anyone, but apparently it was an offense.
“I accept it with an open heart because I was wrong to remove my mask even though there was no one around.
“I don’t blame the authorities,” he said.
The actor from the drama Cinta Sekali Lagi also advised everyone not to forget the SOP during the conditional motion control order.
“I would like to remind everyone to wear their masks, do not take them off if you are away from home.
“RM1,000 is a lot of money. In this situation, a lot can be done with money. Take it as a lesson, ”he said.
