LABUAN: Aggressive Active Case Detection (ACD) conducted by the Labuan Health Department has revealed a fourfold increase in Covid-19 cases in Labuan over a period of less than a month, according to its director, Dr. Ismuni. Bohari.
The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases here stood at 592 yesterday from just 111 on October 16.
Dr Ismuni said that the ACD, which is part of the selective detection exercise, is being carried out in the densely populated areas with the highest number of foreign nationals, such as the two settlements authorized by the United Nations High Commissioner for the Refugees (UNHCR) of Kg. Muslim and Kiansam.
“We expect the number of cases to increase this week due to the aggressive exercise of ACD in these two settlements last week and the fact that all the Covid-19 samples that were taken from the people there had not yet been released.
“We are also attentive to unexamined people, who are possibly positive for Covid-19, following the recent emergence of new groups and in efforts to prevent the spread of the disease to the local community,” he told Bernama today.
Dr Ismuni said that the ACD exercise had been successful in detecting new cases and discovering new groups of Titian (in Muslim kg) last Friday and Tenaga (a kongsi rented house in Jalan Tenaga) on November 2.
He also said that the ACD exercise had been extended to the local villages of Kg Lajau and Kg Tanjung Aru.
“We have also performed the ACD in the busiest place in the Pasar Sentral UTC building with at least 380 samples collected and the results are still pending,” he said.
The government placed Labuan under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) from October 17-30 before extending it until November 13.
The federal territory now has a cumulative number of confirmed Covid-19s of 592 with five active groups, namely Saguking with 262 cases, Tenaga (57), Limbungan (41), Bina (24), Tiziano (13) and Bundle ( 31). . – Called
