MELAKA: Ensuring that the Covid-19 pandemic does not hamper efforts to empower the public sector to be an efficient, transparent and people-friendly service system, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The Prime Minister said that the responsibility of public officials now is to make the new rule a culture for public service to be delivered effectively.
“At the government level, it is important that more initiatives are implemented to improve integrity and governance, such as through efforts to combat corruption to ensure the efficiency and transparency of the administration.
“As local authorities are among the leaders who are often exposed to corruption, efforts to combat this crime must remain an important agenda that must be widely implemented among their staff.
“This is so that we can create a culture of work with integrity without compromising any code of values and ethics,” he said while officiating virtually the 27th Triennial General Meeting of the Amalgamated National Union of Local Authority Employees (Anulae) in International Trade in Melaka. . Center yesterday.
Also present were the president of the Anulae of Peninsular Malaysia, Datuk Azih Muda, and the president of the Congress of the Public and Civil Service Employees Union (Cuepacs), Adnan Mat.
In his 10-minute video address, Muhyiddin also asked local authorities and related agencies to go down to the ground more frequently to better understand the current situation in their areas, as well as to investigate the issues faced by his staff who meet regularly with the public to solve their problems.
He also appreciated Anulae’s efforts to work closely with Cuepacs to address issues among its members, especially public officials, in order to ensure their well-being.
“I hope that we can all work together to ensure that the rights and well-being of every public official can be protected in the best possible way.
“I also hope that Anulae will continue to play its role as the eyes and ears of the government in the local community with the cooperation of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government and its agencies,” he said.
In a related development, Muhyiddin said he was aware of and concerned for the well-being of public officials, including frontline workers, who have sacrificed their time and energy to protect the community during this pandemic.
As such, in appreciation and in recognition of the contribution of civil service employees, she said that several initiatives were recently announced through Budget 2021, including the one-time special financial aid payment of RM 600 for employees of the government grade 56 and below. while government retirees and veterans without pension would receive RM 300 each.
“Health Ministry leaders also received a one-time payment of RM 500, in addition to the special allocation of RM 600, which they have received since March, for their efforts in fighting the pandemic.
“Other front-line workers who qualify according to the criteria set by the National Disaster Management Agency will receive a one-time payment of RM 300,” he said. – Bernama
