ASAJAYA (December 13): Perikatan Nasional (PN) Secretary General Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin’s suggestion for a formal status between PN, Barisan Nasional (BN) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) shows that there is mistrust among the leaders of the peninsular party. said Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

The Minister of Tourism, Art, Culture, Youth and Sports said that GPS had always been friendly to PN and BN as they formed the federal government together and therefore there was no longer a need to affirm mutual support by means of a formal letter. .

“I think a formal letter like that between good friends is not necessary. It is like a married couple, after marriage it is not necessary for the husband and wife to sign another formal agreement.

“We are already close to each other. We have created the government together and we already have a good understanding between us.

“So the moment you propose to sign a formal letter it just reflects that they don’t trust each other. So you don’t have to sign it, ”Abdul Karim said after a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the new Kampung Tambirat Hawkers Center here this afternoon.

He was commenting on a statement from Hamzah Zainuddin on Friday (December 11), proposing a formal letter encompassing PN, Barisan Nasional, and GPS to ensure they run together in the next general election.

Hamzah said the formal letter would ensure the continuity of beneficial policies implemented by his informal cooperation since he took over from the federal government of Pakatan Harapan (PH) in March.

He said such a letter would increase Malaysians’ confidence in the stability and ability of partner coalitions to govern and develop the country.

The proposed coalition would be based on the principle of inclusiveness, Hamzah said, stating that all participating parties would have equal space to express their views, regardless of their size and the communities they represent.

Abdul Karim, who is also a vice president of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu, said that they should instead nurture the good relationship they have had since the formation of the government.

In addition, he added, GPS was not interested in nominating candidates for the next general elections in the peninsula.

“You (the peninsula parties) don’t have to worry about us (Sarawak). If there is something to worry about, it is that you want to come to our state and then dispute in our state what the people of Sarawak are not very happy with, “he said.

Abdul Karim said that the main reason the GPS was formed was for Sarawak to be run by Sarawak’s own parties and leaders.

“With the main theme and GPS tagline ‘Sarawak diutamakan’ (Sarawak first), we want to care or express the way we want it to be. You take care of your region, we take care of ours.

“But we will continue to be friendly with each other because we want to see a stable federal government. That is the reason we support the PN. It does not mean that we are taking advantage, but we want to see a stable government in which the economy can develop and flourish, ”he said.

Meanwhile, in another development, Abdul Karim said that Sarawak Sports Corporation will continue to feed state athletes so that they are always prepared for any sporting events that are coming up in the future.

He said that due to postponements of various sporting events due to the Covid-19 pandemic, such as the Malaysian (Sukma) Games and the Olympics, many athletes would lose their peak by the time sporting events resume.

As such, he said that Sarawak Sports Corporation has been tasked with ensuring that all state athletes are in top condition for upcoming events.

“With many of these sporting events postponed, I have instructed Sarawak Sports Corporation to continue to prepare and train our athletes. All is not lost because we are building a good group of athletes, and I think this is a good investment, ”said Abdul Karim.
