KAPIT (October 4): Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg today approved a total of RM 73 million for two development projects in the city of Kapit.
Speaking at the official opening of the RM3 million Kapit town square, Abang Johari said that the Sarawak government had the budget, so it had no problem developing the city further for the benefit of the people.
Sales tax revenue of RM 3.16 billion paid by Petronas and other oil and gas companies had allowed Sarawak to develop further, he noted.
The first project is the new RM 15 million market, while the other is the RM 58 million landscape and heritage project near here.
He said that the government of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) was on solid ground and therefore could focus on developing the state with the full support of members of the coalition parties.
Abang Johari added that the state is now undergoing rapid infrastructure developments.
He said areas such as Matu, Daro, Mukah, Tanjung Manis, Igan, Sibu and Kapit are now well connected, making it easier for people to travel between divisions.
Roads to Nanga Mujong were also completed, while Balleh, Belaga to Bintulu would also be connected, he added.
The prime minister said that as a solidarity government, mothers who gave birth and those whose relatives had died also received financial aid.
Abang Johari, who was in Kapit as part of his motorcycle expedition and official visiting program.
He made stops at Kanowit, Nanga Ngungun, and Song during the 110 km journey from Sibu Jaya this morning.
The Kapit Town Square project was approved by Abang Johari on April 25, 2017 and was completed on September 15 this year.
Previously, he attended a briefing on the proposed Kapit Waterfront riverbank and slope protection works by Henry Chuo of Gayasari Architect and the market and recreation center proposed by Albert Liew of the BL consulting team.
Among those present were Senior Deputy Minister Tan Sri Dr. James Jemut Masing, Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi and Secretary of State Datuk Amar Jaul Samion.
