A tearful ending: police arrested for onion bribery

SEREMBAN: A police officer was arrested for allegedly requesting and accepting two sacks of onions from a trucker, says Seremban OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Said Ibrahim.

The suspect was arrested in Senawang at noon yesterday (November 30), after the whistleblower filed a report.

“In the report, the truck driver claimed that his truck was stopped at a road block after leaving the Senawang toll plaza.

Then a police officer asked the truck driver and attendant to show a letter from their employer allowing them to transport the goods (during the conditional MCO), otherwise they have to pay a fine.

“In case they couldn’t do it, they were told to hand over the onions,” he said in a statement.

ACP Mohd Said said the case was being investigated under section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion. Violators can be jailed for up to 10 years, or they can be fined, flogged, or either, upon conviction.

“We will conduct a thorough investigation and there will be no commitment,” he added.

The incident is known to have occurred on November 29, and the report was filed at the Shah Alam police station the next day.
