PETALING JAYA: There were 14 new positive cases of Covid-19 at 12pm yesterday, bringing the total positive cases in the country to 9,354.
Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah (pix) in his press conference today said that of the 14, five were imported cases involving returnees from Ukraine, Pakistan and Indonesia.
The foreign cases detected in Selangor came from Ukraine and Pakistan. The Sabah cases were from the Philippines.
The remaining nine new infections were caused by local transmission, with five being Malays and four other cases being among foreigners.
“Five new positive cases were reported among Malaysians in Kedah, where one case was from the Tawar group, one case from the Telaga group and three others were from a new active group called Benteng Lahad Datu in Sabah,” he said.
Noor Hisham said the other four new cases among foreigners also belonged to the new group.
He said the new group has been identified through examinations conducted for new detainees in lockdown at the Lahad Datu District Police (IPD) headquarters.
“Of the 50 detainees who had been examined on August 28, seven tested positive and another 43 tested negative. Positive cases involving six illegal immigrants (PATI) and one Malaysian to date and all of these cases were asymptomatic and are currently being treated at Lahad Datu Hospital, ”he said.
