Mohamed Salah reflected on a “great result” for Liverpool as they beat RB Leipzig 2-0 on Wednesday night to confirm their place in the Champions League quarter-finals.

The Egyptian scored his 25th goal of the season to open the scoring in the Budapest affair and Sadio Mane followed quickly with a close-range finish.

Those goals made it 4-0 overall in the round of 16 tie, providing a much-needed boost for the Reds after a testing period.

Read on for BT Sport’s post-match interview with Salah …

About the result …

It is a great result for us. We lost some matches in the Premier League and the team is not in the best shape, but we want to fight in the Champions League and we will also fight in every Premier League match and see what happens.

On a controlled and positive performance …

It is very positive. To be fair, it’s a tough team, they play football, today they make us run a lot and we try to play our way, press high and catch the ball and counterattack. I think we did well, we won the game, that’s the most important thing. It’s good to take advantage of that game and I hope we can continue that in the Premier League as well.

In missing a few chances in the first half and potentially getting nervous …

I scored in numbers this season and I would love to score more, but it’s part of the game that you lose opportunities. You want to score all the time, you want to help the team, but as long as the team keeps winning, that’s the most important thing. I am happy that I scored the first goal today and that the team won. That is the most important.

On the bottom line …

I think it’s difficult, we had some players who got injured: Virg, Joe, Joel, then Hendo. We try to play with Hendo from central and Fabinho from midfield to central, so you lose Fabinho in midfield. We had some injuries this season, we were unlucky, but the most important thing is that we keep fighting. I know it’s very difficult and everyone can see it, but how [long] Since everyone tries to give 100 percent and keeps fighting in the game, I think we just have to take each game at a time and focus on the next one. We don’t have to look at the big picture because sometimes when we look at the big picture, we have pressure and too much pressure that we can continue on the field. But we just have to take the pressure off the field and just play football.

On whether Liverpool approaches the Champions League with a different mentality because it is far from the Premier League …

It’s been tough in the Premier League, everyone can see it. We don’t want it to be difficult, but it is part of the game. The last few years we win, we fly. This year we had some injuries, so we were unlucky. You have young players and they are playing very well, but sometimes it is difficult for you to put someone in the center. But now we have two centrals or three or four, hopefully we can continue winning.
