BUTTERWORTH (Bernama): One motorcyclist died and another was seriously injured when a car driving against the flow of traffic from the Penang Bridge toll plaza to the North-South Expressway crashed into them.
Mohamad Hafiz Bakri, 31, was killed instantly, while Lim Kar Tian, 34, was seriously injured, including a fractured left leg in the 10.35am incident on Friday (May 15) .
Seberang Prai Tengah District Police Chief ACP Shafee Abd Samad said the car was believed to be accelerating when it hit the two motorcyclists who were in the correct lane that was heading to the island via the Penang Bridge.
“According to witnesses, the driver quickly drove away after ramming the two of them.
“It is understood that the front of the car was damaged, but other road users were unable to write down the registration number of the car,” he told reporters here.
ACP Shafee said police were reviewing the recording from the closed-circuit camera in the area to identify the registration number and driver of the car.
The injured motorcyclist was sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital.
ACP Shafee urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the nearest police station. – Bernama
