PUTRAJAYA: A man who had arrived from Sabah at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) skipped the Ministry of Health screening counter upon arrival, even though it was a requirement.
Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that according to the procedures, all arrivals from Sabah must register at the airport counter, where they will be given a bracelet and a Home Watch Order (HSO).
“However, the individual bypassed the accountant process and proceeded to travel home,” Dr. Noor Hisham said at the ministry’s Covid-19 press conference here on Friday (November 20).
The man, 64, later tested positive for Covid-19 in Kinta, Perak.
Subsequently, four of the man’s social contacts tested positive for the virus, and the ministry has classified the infections as a group dubbed “Bah Bercham.”
Dr Noor Hisham said the man had been tested for Covid-19 in Sabah three days before the flight and the results were negative at the time.
He said this could have been one reason the man thought he didn’t need to go to the airport counter.
“However, even if you have been tested for Covid-19 and it has come back negative, you must still wear a bracelet and must undergo a home quarantine for 14 days. This is a requirement for all arrivals from Sabah, ”he said.
Dr. Noor Hisham said that 7% of Covid-19 cases involving returnees from Sabah only tested positive on the thirteenth day.
