GEORGE TOWN: Police here seized more than RM8.14 thousand worth of drugs and arrested six people in various raids on Thursday (November 19).

Penang Police Chief Comm Datuk Sahabudin Abd Manan said the six arrested by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN) include the union’s mastermind, his wife and mother in raids on facilities in Sungai Nibong, Bayan Lepas and Balik Pulau.

“We successfully arrested four men, including the unemployed 35-year-old mastermind and two women, including the mastermind’s 28-year-old Thai wife,” he said during a press conference at the police contingent headquarters on Friday (20 of November). .

Comm Sahabudin said that the six suspects arrested are between 28 and 59 years old, adding that this drug bust is believed to be the largest in Penang this year.

“The police seized 133.3 kg of methamphetamine for a value of RM5.97 thousand, 20.7 kg of ketamine for a value of about RM1.14 thousand and 11.1 kg of heroin for a value of RM1.03 thousand “, said.

The drugs are believed to have been transported into the country by land through the Sintok border.

He said police also seized three vehicles worth RM36,300 and cash worth RM2,100 under the Dangerous Drugs (Property Confiscation) Act of 1988.

Comm Sahabudin said the drugs seized during the raids could be used by more than a million drug addicts, adding that police believe the union began operations earlier this year.

“The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1952, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction,” added Comm Sahabudin.

He said all of the suspects were detained from Thursday to November 25 to assist in the investigation, adding that two of the suspects, 38 and 39, have criminal records.

Comm Sahabudin said three of the six suspects tested positive for methamphetamine.

Regarding the raids, he said that police personnel arrested two men in Sungai Nibong and confiscated the drugs found in their car.

Comm Sahabudin added that the police then detained a man at a pharmacy in Sungai Nibong before arresting two more suspects in a semi-detached house in Bayan Lepas and eventually the mother and wife of the mastermind in a house in Balik Pulau. .
