Najib Razak says BN wants the government to extend the loan moratorium and allow a one-time withdrawal of RM10,000 from EPF Account 1.

PETALING JAYA: Najib Razak says that it is now up to the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government to decide whether to extend the automatic loan moratorium and allow people a one-time withdrawal of RM10,000 from their Employee Provident Fund (EPF) Account 1 .

The former prime minister said that Barisan Nasional (BN) had exhausted all channels to pressure the government on its two demands, adding that he also met with Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz earlier this week to outline how to they can take these steps.

Najib also said that this could be implemented without causing a major impact on the retirement savings of taxpayers, banks, the budget or government finances.

“Honestly, BN has used every available channel to emphasize why these two needs should be improved and implemented immediately. Like it or not, it is now in the hands of the top leaders of the PN government.

“Where there is a will, there is a way,” he said today in a Facebook post.

Last week, Najib said that BN deputies will only support the 2021 budget if the government makes amendments to the Supply Bill.

He said they want the government to extend the loan moratorium for six months and allow a one-time withdrawal of RM10,000 from EPF Account 1.

BN has 43 deputies in the Dewan Rakyat, which makes their support crucial for the prime minister to get budget approval, especially as the PN government only has a two-seat majority.
