PETALING JAYA: AirAsia boss Tan Sri Tony Fernandes (Photo) has put its sprawling Ayrshire estate in Scotland up for sale for £ 2.5 million (RM13.5 million), as the Covid-19 pandemic has hit airlines around the world, according to the British tabloid The Sun.

The estate is completed by a classic 18th century Georgian farmhouse known as the Skeldon House, set in extensive natural forest that stretches down to the banks of the River Doon.

The property, which has five bedrooms, including two suites, an all-weather tennis court, a wine cellar and sauna, among others, went up for sale on October 1.

Tony, who also owned the Queens Park Rangers football club, had been staying at Skeldon House for seven years.

AirAsia had ventured into the food delivery business in March, as most of the flights were on the ground following the closure of international borders to contain the Covid-19 transmission.

Like many others who were hard hit by the pandemic, the AirAsia chief is refocusing his attention on other profitable companies deemed sustainable during the pandemic.

Tony, 56, was celebrated as one of Asia’s most savvy marketing entrepreneurs, having turned his company and himself into a global brand by doing creative marketing tricks.

Tony began his career in the entertainment industry in the early 1990s and rose to build one of the largest budget airlines in the region.

Tony had now ventured into the food delivery business, as the demand for such services was high in view of the restrictions imposed to control the movement of the masses.
