Covid-19: 8 new cases in Sarawak today: 6 in Kuching, 2 in Miri

KUCHING (Nov 19): Sarawak today registered eight new positive cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of cases to 1,053, announced the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

Of the eight new cases, one has been classified as Import B case and the rest are local broadcasts.

A case of Import B is a local infection from other states in the country.

In its daily update statement, SDMC said that six of the new cases were reported in Kuching, while the remaining two were recorded in Miri.

“Case 1,046 involves a university student who returned from Kuala Lumpur. The case returned to Sarawak via Miri Airport on November 8 and was ordered to self-quarantine at the quarantine center.

“The case shows no symptoms or signs of Covid-19 and has been sent to Miri Hospital for medical attention. A close contact follow-up is being carried out for this case, categorized as Import B, ”said SDMC.

SDMC said that another new case (Case 1,047) from Miri involved a local woman, who was detected through close contact tracing for Case 987.

Case 1,047 is the brother of case 987, and the two had close contact when the latter was ordered to undergo home quarantine. The new case is asymptomatic and has no history of travel abroad or to areas of high risk of infection.

Contact tracing is underway for Case 1,047, a locally transmitted infection.

SDMC said that the six new cases reported in Kuching, categorized in Besi Cluster, were close contacts of previously reported cases.

“All these cases involve locals, who are direct relatives and cousins ​​of the 1,043 and 1,044 cases. They are asymptomatic. “

Contact tracing is also being carried out proactively for these cases.
