KUALA LUMPUR: The special Covid-19 allocation for health care personnel is given only to those who perform tasks to combat the pandemic, said Secretary General of the Ministry of Health (MOH), Datuk Seri, Dr. Chen Chaw Min (pix).

“The allocation is done selectively. It is not for all of the 252,765 permanent officers and more than 40,000 contract officers currently serving in the ministry.

“This is because not all officers are trained to perform Covid-19-related duties and most of them still perform their non-Covid-19 duties as usual at health facilities,” he said today in a statement on reply to a published article. by a news portal.

Dr. Chen explained that this directive is also not continuous in nature, so any officer who is no longer performing their duties or later ordered to work in non-Covid-19 facilities is no longer eligible for the assignment.

However, he said any health care official who has not previously received the assignment will be eligible to receive it when instructed to perform the duties.

According to Dr. Chen, based on comments from Penang Hospital, all health care officers who have received instructions and are still performing Covid-19 related duties are paid accordingly.

He added that the allowance paid from March to September 2020 amounted to RM3,076,300.

“In this regard, the hospital also maintained a series of commitments with officers to explain the assignment and the need for officers to be directly involved in Covid-19-related tasks at the hospital.

“Not all officers are involved because the hospital also needs to ensure that other services continue as usual while avoiding possible infection of the virus in the hospital. This commitment was also made to ensure that all eligible officers receive the assignment, ”he said.

He said the Ministry of Health also took collaborative approaches with takaful providers such as the FWD Takaful Berhad to provide MOH-myHeroes funds in the amount of RM5 million for health care officers infected with Covid-19 while on duty.

“An allocation of more than RM 1 billion has also been made available for the provision of prevention and safety equipment, such as masks, hand sanitizers and personal protective equipment, as measures to prevent infections among healthcare workers and guarantee their well-being ”, he added. – Called
