KOTA KINABALU: The Sandakan Prison Group and a new group called “Avenue” in Penampang District accounted for about half of the positive cases recorded in Sabah on Tuesday (November 17).

State Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said that of the 499 new cases, the Sandakan prison group contributed 122 and Avenue recorded 106.

“This is based on the screening results that have just been obtained from a designated private laboratory,” it said in a statement.

The Avenue group involved workers from a construction site in Penampang, while another new group detected was Kejora in the Kota Kinabalu district with nine cases.

Four deaths were recorded: two in Kota Kinabalu and one in Tawau and Sandakan.

Masidi added that bed occupancy on Tuesday stood at 31.41% of the total 6,358 beds available in hospitals and low-risk quarantine and treatment centers across Sabah.

As of Tuesday, 184,641 food baskets were channeled to specific groups affected by the pandemic.
