Covid-19: 1 new case classified as local transmission registered in Sarawak

KUCHING (November 17): Sarawak today registered a new positive case of Covid-19 transmitted locally in the district of Kuching, bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 1,042, said the State Disaster Management Committee ( SDMC).

It said in a statement that the latest case was examined after experiencing signs and symptoms of respiratory tract infections.

“This case sought treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) on November 16 after suffering from fever, cough, sore throat and headache since November 12.

“Later, the patient was admitted to the SGH isolation room as a Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI).

“On November 16, the patient was tested for Covid-19 and found to be positive the same day,” he said.

The committee also noted that a subsequent investigation found that this case had close contact with Case 1,040, who is a colleague.

“The case has no history of traveling abroad nor did it visit high-risk areas for Covid-19 infection outside of Sarawak,” he said, adding that this case, classified as a local infection, is now under further investigation and tracing of Contacts is in full swing. .

Meanwhile, SDMC said that two Covid-19 patients had recovered today and were allowed to be discharged from SGH.

“This brings the total number of recoveries in the state to 933 or 89.54 percent of total cases,” he said.

He also said that there are currently 90 patients being treated at hospitals across the state, of whom 80 are being treated at SGH and 10 at Miri Hospital.

“There are no patients receiving treatment in the SGH intensive care unit, but one case is receiving ventilation in the SGH isolation room,” he added.

Regarding the number of persons under investigation (PUI), the committee said 12 new cases were registered with one case pending the result of laboratory tests.

Since the first positive case of Covid-19 was reported on March 13, the state has recorded a total of 19 deaths.
