KUALA LUMPUR: Deputies who hold positions in government-linked companies (GLC) and government-linked investment companies (GLIC) should see their salaries cut and funnel them into the country’s Covid-19 fund.

Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PH-Pandan, pix) said the allowance and chairman’s fees of any deputy presiding over any GLC or GLIC should be reduced by 50% and the reduction should be channeled as a corporate social responsibility for Tabung Covid-19.

“All parliamentarians are already receiving salaries,” he said when debating the 2021 budget.

He said the salary of the prime minister, senior ministers, ministers and deputy ministers should also be reduced by 10% to show that they lead by example, especially when the country faces a major pandemic and economic problems.

Under the previous Pakatan Harapan government, all ministers saw their salaries cut by 30% and the money was funneled into the Covid-19 fund.

Wan Azizah proposed that all MPs receive an equal allocation of funds and an equal pay cut.

“I hope that the operational funds and the community funds for Parliament’s service centers will be given equally to both parties,” he said.
