KUALA LUMPUR: Top Glove workers’ dormitory in Klang, Selangor, will be subject to an enhanced movement control order (EMCO), Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.
At a press conference, he said that the blockade will be implemented from tomorrow until November 30.
The Top Glove facility in Meru, Klang, has been linked to the Teratai group. There were 53 new cases in the group yesterday, bringing the total number of infections in the group to 214.
While he said Top Glove factories would remain open for now, Ismail said Top Glove had been asked to screen all workers at the factory and those living in the bedrooms.
Ismail said EMCO will affect 13,190 workers and nearly 1,200 of the area’s residents.
“The EMCO will be implemented in the men’s dormitory and in Jalan Abadi 1A / QU8, the women’s dormitory, Jalan Abadi 1A and Jalan Abadi 10A / KU8,” he said.
“This will allow the Ministry of Health to continue evaluating workers and residents of the area,” he added.
Top Glove has 20 factories and worker dormitories in Meru, Klang.
While he did not specify which factories he was referring to, Ismail said that all Top Glove workers must be evaluated.
Ismail also said that the EMCO at Kepayan Prison and the Prison Department rooms at Kampung Matambai in Sabah would end today.
He also announced the end of EMCO at the health ministry training institute in Kempas, Johor Bahru.
Giving details of daily operations, Ismail said police arrested 463 yesterday for crimes related to motion control.
It said 427 people were imposed compound fines while 36 were detained.
Most of the arrests, Ismail said, were for not practicing physical distancing and not wearing face masks.
