KUALA LUMPUR: The government plans to implement stricter standard operating procedures (SOPs) for foreign workers, as well as extend the hyssop test requirement to those in the industrial sector, in an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the country.

“We are conducting a detailed study … to date, there are about 1.7 million foreign workers in Malaysia and with such a large number we are considering the capacity of the laboratories to produce the results and who should bear the costs. . if we were to run the swab tests on them.
“I was informed that more than a million foreign workers contribute to the Social Security Organization (Socso),” he told a press conference on the development of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) here today.
Yesterday, Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah was reported to have said that the group that recorded the highest number of cases was the Damanlela Construction Site group in Kuala Lumpur, with 460 cases.
As such, Ismail Sabri said the Human Resources Ministry was asked to provide detailed recommendations on measures to eliminate transmission of the virus among foreign workers.
“We are aware of their living conditions in which up to 30 people are crowded into a house, which puts them at risk of transmission of Covid-19. So we are looking for ways to reduce infectivity, and at the top of the list is imposing screening requirements for testing.
