IPOH: Deepavali will not be the same for D. Mathialagan after he lost his nephew in a freak accident with a knife on the eve of the celebration.

The seven-year-old boy died after his cousin accidentally stabbed him in the chest at the latter’s home in Sitiawan on Friday around 10.10pm.

“He was close to me and my family. As we are also neighbors, he came to my house every day to play with his cousins.

“I remember how excited I was to celebrate Deepavali. He chose his own clothes and asked me to dye his hair, ”Mathialagan said when meeting yesterday at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital morgue.

“He even told me that he wanted to play with firecrackers after dinner. It won’t be the same without him around. “

Mathialagan said the incident occurred when the victim directly collided with her 11-year-old cousin, who was holding a knife.

“His cousin had wanted to use the knife to cut a rope outside the house.

“My nephew was running from his house to his next cousin’s house.

“Suddenly, there was blood everywhere. I ran to my nephew, hugged him and called him by his name a couple of times, but there was no response, “he said.

Mathialagan said he didn’t know what to do until his neighbors arrived and urged him to send the boy to hospital.

“His mother, who is my sister, cried throughout the trip and that is something I will never forget,” he said.

The 39-year-old father of the victim, who was also in the morgue, was inconsolable.

The remains have been reclaimed and are expected to be cremated in Sitiawan today.

Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Nor Omar Sappi said the incident was under investigation.
