BUTTERWORTH: A 56-year-old man was injured after being assaulted on the Taman Bagan flats in Butterworth on Saturday night (November 14).

North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor said that in the 11.55pm incident, the man was at his home when a group of 30 men arrived at his home on the second floor of the apartment looking for his son.

“The victim was with her family at her home when the men arrived and told the group that her son was not at home,” ACP Noorzainy said in a statement on Sunday (November 15).

He said the victim advised the group to respect him as he was older than them after one of the suspects uttered bad words.

ACP Noorzainy added that one of the suspects hit the victim with a steel bar instead of listening to the victim’s advice.

He said the victim’s wife managed to get the victim into the house and closed the grate door, but the suspect struck the steel bar against the grate.

ACP Noorzainy said the victim suffered injuries to his head and left cheek, adding that he was

sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital for treatment.

Subsequent investigations found that the group had damaged a motorcycle that belonged to the victim’s son.

ACP Noorzainy said that the swift action by the D9 unit led by ASP Mohd Yusof Ibrahim had led to the arrest of nine suspects aged between 19 and 22 in the Taman Bagan apartment complex.

He said police confiscated a hockey stick, a long wooden stick, a helmet and a steel bar during the arrest, adding that all of the suspects have admitted to the crimes and have not previously been involved in gang activity.

“Further investigation found that the cause of the incident was due to the victim’s son reprimanding the group for making a loud noise in the apartments.”

The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for disturbances.
