KUALA LUMPUR: Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS) and Air Selangor detected odor contamination of approximately 4 TON (threshold odor number) at Sungai Kundang at midnight last night, but there was no closure of any water treatment plants.

The odor contamination is believed to be due to water overflowing from a pond near the Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) wastewater treatment plant in Taman Velox, Rawang.

According to a LUAS post on Twitter, the incident is also believed to be due to a leak caused by heavy rains in the area.

He said Air Selangor took immediate action by placing 14 bags of activated carbon at the outlet and in the pond drainage area near the treatment plant.

“There were no reported shutdowns at the water treatment plants or interruptions in the water supply,” the publication said.

LUAS said that IWK was also implementing cleanup and control work in the area.
