IPOH (THE STAR / ASIA NEWS NETWORK) – Desperate to get to Deepavali’s house, a man decided to drive against traffic on Malaysia’s North-South Highway to avoid a roadblock and caused an accident involving two other vehicles.

The 34-year-old man was driving towards his hometown in Bidor, Perak, after undergoing a Covid-19 swab test in Klang when he saw a police checkpoint at the Sungkai toll exit around 6 p.m. Wednesday (11 of November).

Tapah Police Chief Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said the man, who was driving a Perodua Axia, decided to go against the flow of traffic for about 1.4 km to avoid the blockade, leading to an accident at the mark 355.4 km from the highway.

“The driver, seeing the barricade, backed up and drove against the southbound flow of traffic.

“While doing so, a driver of a Toyota Rush in the right lane was unable to avoid the Axia, crashed head-on and turned several times, while a trailer, carrying glove-making machines, was also unable to avoid the car and collided with the.

“The 25-year-old driver of Kedah’s Toyota Rush suffered minor injuries, while the suspect and the trailer driver were not injured,” he said.

Wan Azharuddin said that footage from the incident had gone viral, and by the time police arrived at the scene, the driver had likely moved his car.

He said the driver had been arrested at his home in Bidor around 11 a.m. on Thursday (November 12) and would be investigated for reckless driving.
