He said the government of GPS appreciates the contributions, sacrifices and commitment of public officials in the performance of their duties and responsibilities, especially during these difficult times.
“During the Covid-19 pandemic, public officials, including doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, uniformed bodies, immigration and other front-line personnel, have worked tirelessly to protect our people.
“There are also other members of the civil service who are working behind the scenes, away from the glare of publicity, but are working diligently in their respective workplaces. To all of them, I would like to thank you, ”he said during his closing speech at today’s state assembly.
Abang Johari said that the 2021 state budget was designed to create an investment environment for the private sector to invest.
He welcomed the suggestion to establish a sovereign wealth fund by investing in surplus income as a buffer in times of financial crisis, as well as for the benefits of current and future generations in Sarawak.
He said the state government will undertake a comprehensive feasibility study to ensure an adequate implementation framework and mechanism to mitigate the significant risks associated with the operation of such a fund.
The study would also ensure that all key aspects of the fund are taken into account, such as the financial, legal and operational perspectives.
