KUCHING: Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing continues to defend his criticism of Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah on the latter’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The frank deputy reiterated that he did not have malicious intentions against anyone, but simply wanted to hold the general director of Health responsible, even if it meant a violent reaction.

He added that he did not want to prolong the issue any longer, but hoped that everyone, regardless of political affiliation, would be united in the fight against Covid-19 and rebuilding the economy.

“In no way was it intended to offend our front-line personnel. In fact, I specifically noted their selfless dedication in fighting the pandemic.

“What he had pointed out is the personal responsibility and the responsibility of the General Directorate of Health during this difficult period.

“I don’t care about the inevitable backlash a public figure like me would receive if it meant holding you accountable for (Covid-19) cases.

“Because the numbers are more than dire now, the sufferings of the people are insurmountable and the economy is going down the drain,” he said on Friday (November 13).

Tiong, who is chairman of the Progressive Democratic Party, also responded to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leader Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who said on Thursday (November 12) that he was shocked and embarrassed when he heard Tiong ask in Parliament. if the Director General of Health was afraid of dying because he did not go to Sabah at the height of the Covid-19 peak.

“As a member of GPS, who is considered a high-level politician, (Karim) should understand the deeper problem before speaking.

“As elected representatives, we must be courageous when speaking up, although doing so can attract censorship from all corners,” Tiong said.
