PETALING JAYA: The former leader of the New Youth Association of Universiti Malaya (Umany), Wong Yan Ke, will be indicted in court tomorrow for allegedly disobeying a public servant.

In a Facebook post, Wong confirmed that tomorrow he will be charged under Section 188 of the Penal Code.

Last Saturday, Wong was arrested by Kajang police while filming and broadcasting a raid on the home of the current president of Umany. He was detained for 15 hours and was released on bail.

Several Umany members are being investigated for a post on their Facebook page titled “Yang di-Pertuan Agong must not intervene in national affairs.”

Umany had published the article last week, prompting the police to launch an investigation into several of its leaders, including its president, Robin Yap Wen Qing, and vice president, Tan Li Yuan, under the Sedition Act and the Communications and Multimedia Law.

Legal groups and human rights defenders came out in defense of Umany, saying that the police action was unfair.

Earlier today, Umany apologized for the controversial post and withdrew it, saying that he had consulted various constitutional experts.

“We affirm our adherence to the constitutional monarchy system in Malaysia and we respect the role of the Agong in the Federal Constitution. We would like to apologize to His Majesty and the public for our lack of full understanding of the Federal Constitution, ”Umany said in a statement.
