KUALA LUMPUR: Teresa Kok (PH-Seputeh) has urged the National Security Council (MKN) to review the ruling that only two people can be in a car at the same time in the states under the conditional motion control order (CMCO ).
He said this decision was unreasonable and made travel difficult for people, particularly couples with young children.
“They cannot leave their children at home when they go out to buy food. Besides that, what about sick people who have to be taken to the hospital?
“What about employers who have to send their workers to the workplace?
“This has caused the roads in the Klang Valley to become more congested. So I urge MKN to review and relax this restriction for states under CMCO, ”he said while debating Budget 2021 at the Dewan Rakyat today.
Earlier today, two health experts had scrapped the idea of allowing more than two people in a car, saying it would undermine efforts to control the spread of Covid-19 through the partial lockdown.
Former Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Lee Boon Chye, and the President of the Malaysian Medical Association, Dr. Subramaniam Muniandy, told the FMT that they believed the decision was appropriate considering current transmission rates.
Lee, Kok’s colleague in Pakatan Harapan, urged those seeking a relaxation of the rule to be patient, saying it is meant to reduce the number of people who go out.
