KUALA LUMPUR: The government of Perikatan Nasional (PN) will prioritize the recovery of the economy and the fight against Covid-19 in the upcoming general elections, said Chief Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali.

At a press conference today, Azmin, who was appointed PN’s director of elections today, said that the coalition’s preparations for the 15th general election (GE15) were underway.

However, they had no plans to hold quick polls anytime soon.

“We want a strong, stable government that can provide the best service to the people and the country.

“The focus is to fight Covid-19 and economic recovery, not GE15,” said Azmin, who is also PN’s chief information officer.

“But as a coalition, we must be prepared for all possibilities, and all the party leaders have put the responsibility on me.”

He said he appreciated the confidence and faith of the coalition party leaders in him to lead the preparations for the upcoming general elections, adding that he was committed to fulfilling his responsibility.

Azmin, who is also the minister of international trade and industry, also announced that all Asean economy ministers had agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the implementation of non-tariff measures on essential goods at the 19th council of the Asean Economic Community (AEC). meet today.
