KUALA LUMPUR: Allocations have been reserved for all schools, including vernacular schools, in the 2021 budget, said Human Resources Minister Datuk M. Saravanan (pix).

He said Senior Minister (Education) Dr. Radzi Jidin will soon announce the allocation for vernacular schools, which will be included in the ministry’s RM 50 billion budget.

“I have discussed this issue with the Minister of Finance, Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Aziz, and the Minister of Education, and they both said that the allocation is there.

“The Indian community is unhappy with the allocation for Tamil schools because we usually get around RM100 million from the budget,” he told a press conference in Parliament.

Saravanan was responding to growing discontent among the Indian community over the lack of an announcement about the allocations for Tamil schools.

He said he did not ask for a specific amount for Tamil schools and will leave the decision to the minister.

He said that the Indian community should not worry as the ministry will provide sufficient funds.
