DG Health: Private Sector Covid-19 Testing Can Only Be Performed In Private Medical Facilities

PETALING JAYA: Covid-19 testing by the private sector can only be performed in a private medical clinic, ambulatory care center or a private hospital, says the Ministry of Health.

Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah also said that only private medical clinics can offer on-site screening in places such as factories, public hallways or offices.

Dr Noor Hisham said that in line with the increase in Covid-19 cases in the country, there has been an increased demand for testing from employers and individuals, with many promotions being offered.

He said the sample test could be done at the health center itself or sent to any private medical laboratory that has been accredited by the ministry.

This, he said, would depend on the facilities available at the site where the sample was taken and the type of detection performed, be it RT PCR or RTK antigen testing.

“Each facility that offers Covid-19 detection services and all laboratories that perform tests on the sample must comply with the terms and guidelines issued by the ministry.

“This is to ensure that the safety aspects of patients and healthcare workers, as well as the quality of the services offered are not compromised,” he said in a statement on Sunday (November 8).

Dr. Noor Hisham praised the initiative of employers who screened their employees, but asked for their cooperation in dealing only with screening providers that comply with the ministry’s terms and guidelines.
