KUALA LUMPUR: The government proposes that the income tax relief for the cost of medical treatment, special needs and parental care be increased from RM5,000 to RM8,000.

According to the appendix to the Budget 2021 published yesterday, individual taxpayers can claim a tax break of up to RM6,000 on medical treatment expenses for serious illnesses.

The Finance Ministry said this includes a tax break of up to RM500 for a full medical exam.

“The scope of tax relief on medical treatment expenses has also been expanded to cover vaccination expenses for individual taxpayers, spouse and child, limited to RM1,000,” he said.

The appendix also indicates that individual taxpayers with disabled partners have also received additional tax relief of RM 3,500.

The budget also highlighted that for the lifestyle tax relief, the tax relief limit would be increased from RM 2,500 to RM 3,000, with the additional RM 500 being for sports expenses, sports facility rental and competition.
