According to The Liverpool Echo, Liverpool and sporting director Michael Edwards managed to secure Diogo Jota’s first 12 months at the club for free.

This was due to the ‘favorable’ payment terms agreed by Wolves when Ki-Jana Hoever moved to Molineux in a deal worth up to £ 13.5 million.

Even if Liverpool had to fork out the £ 41 million the BBC believes they agreed to give to the Wolves in one go, it would still have seemed like a bargain given their start at Anfield.

The former Atlético de Madrid striker has already scored seven goals in ten games for the Premier League champions, including a hat-trick against Atalanta in the Champions League.

Jota has also won against Sheffield United and West Ham in the Premier League, and is proving he is worth his weight in gold as Roberto Firmino fights.

The Portugal international is Jurgen Klopp’s fourth most important signing for Liverpool according to the BBC.

Ahead of him, only Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker and Naby Keita cost more than the former Porto star.

Of course, it goes without saying that Liverpool will eventually have to pay.

However, Edwards’ ability to negotiate a deal that makes the Reds pay next to nothing for Jota for a year is a brilliant deal amid a global pandemic, which has surely affected Liverpool’s finances in some way.

In other news, the Newcastle player suggests that he might leave if Bruce drops him again.
