1,009 Covid-19 cases, 6 deaths

PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Health has reported 1,009 cases of Covid-19 and six deaths in the last 24 hours.

This is the third day in a row that Malaysian cases have hit four digits.

Health Director General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 839 recoveries, bringing the total number of discharged to 25,654.

At a press conference, Noor Hisham said the 1,009 cases bring the total number of infections in the country to 36,434.

Meanwhile, the six deaths bring the toll to 277.

A total of 10,503 people are currently receiving treatment. Seventy-eight are in intensive care and 28 require respiratory assistance.

The deceased are five patients in Sabah and one in Selangor. Four of them were local and two were foreign, all between the ages of 54 and 92. All of the patients suffered from existing medical conditions.

Today there were nine imported cases.

Most of today’s local cases were from Sabah with 564, or 55.9% of current cases.

Of the cases in Sabah, 119 were detected in existing clusters, while 254 were detected in close contact examinations and 191 in other examinations.

Selangor reported 177 cases and Labuan reported 92 cases. They were followed by Negeri Sembilan with 90, Penang with 36 and Kuala Lumpur with 14.

Kedah recorded seven cases, while Sarawak and Perak reported six each. Melaka had five, Johor had two, and Putrajaya recorded one.

Most of these cases were detected in clusters, close contact examinations, and other Covid-19 examinations.
