PUTRAJAYA: The National Security Council (NSC) is expected to hear the latest proposals on the standard operating procedure (SOP) for recovery and the conditional motion control order (MCO) at a special meeting this Saturday (Nov 7) says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Chief Minister (Security) said that the proposals were presented at the technical meeting of the council on Thursday (5 November) morning, but that the special meeting, which decides the go-ahead, has yet to analyze them.

“We have not given approval for the new POE. The special meeting will have to look at it first and decide. Perhaps this will be discussed during the special meeting on Saturday,” he said on Thursday (November 5).

Ismail Sabri said the government had also received proposals from the Ministry of Industry and International Trade on SOPs for the economic sector.

“We have received different proposals, some want the SOP to tighten while others want it to be relaxed. All this will be analyzed and decided, ”he said.

Proposals for the new SOP come after the Prime Minister voiced concerns about the Covid-19 situation in the country and said the government plans to re-evaluate the SOP for faster and more effective intervention.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had said that measures previously taken by the government had been able to control the spread of the virus, but looking at the situation now, a mitigated approach that is faster was needed.

On Tuesday (Nov 3), Ismail Sabri said that a new SOP is being established not only for areas under conditional MCO but also for recovery MCO, as the government seeks more effective intervention due to the pandemic.
