Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek says he cannot comprehend his team’s lackluster performance against Istanbul Basaksehir.

The Red Devils lost 2-1 in Turkey, with Demba Ba scoring an abnormal opener. Ba was also vital for his team’s second goal, before Anthony Martial scored one before the break.

But despite the initial reprieve, United did not register another shot on goal and fell in a damaging defeat.

Talking to BT sport After the match, Van de Beek admitted that he was taken aback by the form of his team’s second straight loss.

“I have to say that I am really disappointed.” the 23 year old said. “We started well, the first 10 minutes, and then we gave away a goal, I don’t know how.

“And after that we lost confidence and we can play much better. We are a team and we all have a responsibility, we can play much better ”.

Van de Beek also said Martial’s answering goal offered him hope for a comeback in the second half. However, he admitted that his team’s lack of creativity cost them.

“I had the feeling (when Martial scored) that there was a lot of room to create something, but today we didn’t create many opportunities,” he said.

“For them it is a very nice victory and for us it is really disappointing. We need to improve a lot.

“We are Man United and we have to improve. The Arsenal game is the same, we have to take a step forward for the game against Everton ”.

Ba opened the scoring from a Red Devils short corner. The visitors had all their players in the area or in forward positions, letting the forward run clear and score after a punt.

The 35-year-old then squared off to allow Edin Visca to double his team’s lead, before Martial’s header.

Solskjaer criticizes an unforgivable mistake

Offering his own reaction to Ba’s opener, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer He claimed the mistake was “unforgivable.”

The United manager, however, admitted that his team’s performance, apart from that goal, did not justify them taking anything out of the game.

Solskjaer must now answer his critics in Saturday’s Premier League clash with Everton. The Toffees also need a win, after two successive losses of their own.
