Pejuang President Mukhriz Mahathir said in a statement today that it is a conflict of interest for Attorney General Idris Harun to represent the government in a lawsuit against Yang di-Pertuan Agong, who rejected the cabinet’s proposal to declare an emergency in the country. – Malaysia Insight file photo, November 4, 2020.

The attorney general cannot represent Putrajaya in his lawsuit to dispute Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decision to reject the cabinet’s advice to declare an emergency in the country, Mukhriz Mahathir said.

In a statement, the Pejuang president said that Attorney General Idris Harun, who advised the government on seeking emergency power, could not be trusted to defend the king’s decision to reject it.

“As legal counsel to the government, of course, the attorney general will represent Putrajaya to answer the questions raised in the lawsuit,” he said.

“Isn’t that a conflict of interest? How can the ag who prepared the arguments to justify the emergency now defend the king who rejected the declaration?

Mukhriz was referring to the lawsuit filed by lawyer Syed Iskandar Syed Jaafar against the Malaysian government on October 28.
