Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin says MKN will present its review of the SOP on interstate travel tomorrow.

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has instructed the National Security Council (MKN) to review the need to tighten SOPs for interstate and interdistrict travel.

During the MKN special meeting he chaired, Muhyiddin also told the security council to review whether social activities should still be allowed, in light of the increase in Covid-19 cases.

“I have been informed that the MKN will present the results of the Covid-19 technical committee discussions on the SOP review at the MKN meeting tomorrow,” he said in a Facebook post today.

He also said that the Electoral Commission (EC) and the Attorney General’s Office had been asked to study the legal aspects that would make it possible to postpone the imminent partial elections of Batu Sapi until the Covid-19 situation improved.

He said EC President Abdul Ghani Salleh presented the POE for the by-elections at today’s MKN meeting, but maintained that the elections would be difficult to hold with the pandemic still raging in Sabah.

“The situation (in the country) continues to be worrying and cannot be allowed to continue.

“I want to make sure that all suggestions to improve our actions and preparedness to manage and control Covid-19 infections in the country are sufficiently considered.

“At the end of the day, this is all to protect Malaysians from Covid-19 and to ensure that they can get on with their lives,” he said.
